Fifth Graders are combining their knowledge of simple machines and cartooning to create blueprint cartoons inspired by Rube Goldberg. Some students are so excited that they wanted to do some drawing at home, so I promised to attach a link to the simple machines description we used in class. Some students in Mrs. Hammerslag's class went way above and beyond making their movie about pollution. They spent many lunch and recess periods in the art studio, collaborating on this amazing little movie. Check it out by clicking the link below. It's a win win! Frank Russell has been sculpting with found objects for 30 years. He has recreated an astonishing array of sea creatures by assembling a variety of reclaimed materials like ironing boards, musical instruments, tin roofs, cooking utensils, bowling pins, fruitcake tins, bicycle and automobile parts, chandeliers, sports equipment… almost anything metal. Most are life-sized and quite accurate as to detail, profile and posture. Watch the video below to learn how the sixth graders at Northern Trails are using their artwork to educate others about pollution. Fifth Graders have been learning about logo design and how a logo is different than a regular drawing. They are learning that logo design doesn't end at developing a cool logo. They are learning that a logo's placement on a product is just as importance. Some kids are REALLY getting into this. so as promised, here is a link to the templates we are using in art class:
