Any artist, scientist, engineer or inventor knows that great things rarely happen the first time you try something new, but a passion for creating something that makes the world more beautiful or a better place, keeps them striving for greatness. Boyan Slat, a teenager passionate about combating water pollution knows this very well. Watch the amazing success that three years of research and development has brought this young man and the outstanding impact his hard work will have on the world. SUCCESS!!!

ART PRIZE IS HERE! and so is STEAM VILLAGE!
I hope many of you will have a chance to explore the awesome events and workshops offered this year! https://www.artprize.org/events/detail/steam-village Here's a little sneak peak! Our sixth grade recycled character sculptures are off to a great start! We cannot wait to use them to teach others about caring for the environment!
Check out the video about our first project in art/STEAM class. This first project largely focused on teamwork, communication and visual problem solving, while exploring force and motion. Northern Trails 6th graders are off to an amazing start on their collaborative mural celebrating community and art made from recycled materials. Taking inspiration from Romare Bearden's collage work, this grade level project is going to be huge and if we really knock it out of the park it could be a 2018 ArtPrize entry!
Fifth graders are learning about non-objective art. They are making thoughtful decisions about how to use the elements of design, color, shape, texture and line to communicate a mood and movement. Applying what they know about gravity and pendulums, these artists are painting with unconventional materials like tennis balls and pendulums painters. Watch the video below for a sneak peek, and stay tuned for a look at their final pieces, including original poems about their artwork. |
